Cycling and walking are the most environmentally sustainable modes of transport available to students, staff and visitors travelling to and from the University of Auckland.
The University has committed, through its Environmental Policy and via the U21 Statement on Sustainability, to “encourage the use of environmentally responsible transportation and provide facilities for that use” and to foster environmentally sustainable teaching, learning, research and practice. Additionally, a travel plan for the Learning Quarter (2007-2016) has been developed that prioritises sustainable travel options such as cycling and walking.
Of course, as well as being good for the environment, cycling will also save you money as you won’t have to pay for petrol, parking or public transport. It also happens to be really good for you and, on top of that, it’s fun!
